Dr. Gurung is an experienced Consultant Urological Surgeon with special interests in Robotic Surgery and Minimally-invasive Surgery, Endourological and LASER Surgery (Kidney stones), Uro-oncological Surgery (Kidney Cancer, Prostate Cancer, Bladder Cancer), Men’s Health (Urology, Andrology), Urinary symptoms and infections in Men and Women, Surgical Training and Urological Education, Surgical Research and Innovation.

Dr. Gurung obtained his medical degree (MBBS) from The Royal Free and University College Medical School, University College London (UCL), the University of London in 2002.  Building upon his foundation in Surgical Oncology, Dr. Gurung obtained national-level funding from various organisations, including the British Urological Foundation, to undertake research in Bladder Cancer at University College London (UCL) which led to the award of his PhD.  He was awarded “Best Poster” prizes at the British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS) Oncology conference and at the London Cancer Network Urology conference for outputs arising from his PhD research.

After completing a nationally-accredited Core Surgical Training (CST) postgraduate rotation in a panel of surgical specialties, including Urology, General and Vascular Surgery, Emergency Medicine, and Critical Care, Dr. Gurung obtained his MRCS (Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons).

Dr. Gurung then entered specialist Higher Surgical Training (HST) in Urology, for 5 years, through a nationally-accredited selection process by Health Education England (HEE).  Completion of this comprehensive training rotation, in medical and surgical urology, led to a Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) in Urology and a Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST).  Additionally, Dr. Gurung has obtained a Fellowship from the European Board of Urology (FEBU).  During his FRCS training, Dr. Gurung sought to develop his skills in major oncological and complex surgery including Open, Laparoscopic, and Robotic Surgery.

After FRCS, Dr. Gurung was able to secure the prestigious Robotic Surgical Fellowship post (2 years) at the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC), New York, U.S. – an internationally-competed post which is matched by the American Urological Association (AUA) and accredited by the Endourological Society (ES)
